At long last, Tweetdeck has decided to make an app for the Android users. After news of the official Twitter client, a lot of Twitter apps suddenly faded into the background for a lot of people because frankly some of the simpler twitter apps didn’t really do much anyway. With an official client on the Marketplace, there was no way they could survive. But Tweetdeck is another story. They have a very strong following across multiple platforms (including both desktop and mobile) and a lot of Android users have been pining for the company to release an Android app.
Twitter has bought the Twitter iPhone app Tweetie and is now planning to use that to launch their own official App for Android users as well. The company used the Chirp conference for Twitter developers to push this notice out. As always, there is a lot of confusion and hatered against twitter for doing this to their developers but Twitter never said that it will not make its own official App. The company will of course not block the third party apps that are already there but it does threaten to take their business away.
Vonage Mobile is the latest VoIP app to grace the Android platform but it is not available for all and sundry to use. It will only be available to people using Android phones on T-Mobile or AT&T. This app allows the user to make cellular calls over WiFi networks so that they can save their voice minutes.
Looks like Verizon is inching close to providing that exclusive Skype integration that they declared some time back. Skype, as you know, as pulled out of several mobile stores and is not available on other mobile devices as a result. Verizon, at the time of announcing the deal, said that they would bring an unprecedented level of integration to the service.
