Here’s something that will tickle the nostalgia of a lot of techies. Nullsoft, the developers behind Winamp have launched an Android App version of the popular media player. It has been over a decade since Winamp was first launch in the year 1997. Since then, it has stayed the mainstay of many PC’s across the world. Even though there is no doubt that Windows Media Player is now looking like quite the option, many people still prefer the old is gold policy when it comes to media players for Windows. And this Android app is just what the tech crowd needed.

Android has always been wanting for a good media player, with the basic media players still not up to scratch when compared to the competition — iTunes. Winamp for Android is available for all models with Android OS 2.1 and up. Also, this app is not just a standalone player with the Winamp branding. It can actually talk to Winamp desktop installations if you have Winamp 5.59 Beta installed on your system. Through it, you can sync up your libraries via both USB and PC.

There’s also a playback widget available for the Android desktop with support for Last.fm integration. It is currently up for grabs on the Android Marketplace. Grab it via the QR code below or search on the Market as usual.

A good integrated media player on Android has been sorely missing all this time. Although there are quite a few options already available for download, with the amount of development experience that the Winamp team has the app should have robust support. With Winamp as the client app on the desktop, the sync process should be hassle free. There is thus hope for the media player scenario on Android after all.
