After the iPhone launch of the Sky+ app, the Android users of the UK can get their hands on the app as well. The popular broadcaster has finally announced the launch of their Android app, long after the iPhone app moved into place. In addition to this piece of news, Sky also announced that they have seen over 5 million downloads of their apps within a year’s time, proving that there is indeed a large demand for apps that enable the customers to control their entertainment remotely.
The Sky+ app for Android is available for free download from the Android Market. It is primarily aimed at enabling customers to control their Sky+ and Sky+HD boxes remotely. Using the app, they can set their boxes to record shows even if they have forgotten to physically configure the boxes to do this. So even if you had forgotten about that season finale while coming to office, you can still set your box to record it from your Android phone using this Remote Record feature.
Sky Mobile General Manager, David Gibbs stated that the huge download numbers show that the customers indeed want innovative solutions like this app right here. Giving customers a remote control for their boxes that can be operated from almost anywhere is a very attractive option indeed. This app also gives the user the option to access Sky’s 7-day EPG, which gives them the option to browse show listings by time, name or day.
Sky has so far been a very progressive broadcaster with multiple mobile apps to their credit. All of them dedicated to add value to their customer experience. They already have the award-winning Sky News App that is really popular and they have been one of the first to give live streaming content over mobile phones.
