Vonage Mobile is the latest VoIP app to grace the Android platform but it is not available for all and sundry to use. It will only be available to people using Android phones on T-Mobile or AT&T. This app allows the user to make cellular calls over WiFi networks so that they can save their voice minutes.

The good things about this new Vonage service is that the calls within the US are free. It can make calls over both WiFi and cellular networks. International calls can also be made but those will cost the user. The international calls are made over the cellular network and they cost the user voice minutes. So it is better to just stick to the free US calls.

Vonage has a Vonage World Mobile Plan which might interest frequent international callers. You will be able to make unlimited International calls for $24.99 per month. And you can also take the service with you when you are travelling outside to make calls over WiFi.

The Vonage app has a dialer and it also taps into the contacts’ list for making calls. If you are dialing an International number, the app will intelligently route it through the Vonage network.

Technically, there is nothing stopping Vonage from releasing it to the other networks. So it cannot be explained why they are not bringing it to Sprint but it not coming to Verizon is explained by Skype’s presence. Skype has an exclusive deal with Verizon and it is a big rival for Vonage.

The app is currently live and available from the Android Market or the websites of the carriers. This app is also available on the iPhone/iPod Touch and BlackBerries.
