Looks like Verizon is inching close to providing that exclusive Skype integration that they declared some time back. Skype, as you know, as pulled out of several mobile stores and is not available on other mobile devices as a result. Verizon, at the time of announcing the deal, said that they would bring an unprecedented level of integration to the service.

At the time nothing was clear and everyone could only speculate. But now we have a better idea thanks to an animated, cartoony informercial released by Verizon. It still doesn’t provide all the results but it gives you a better idea of what to expect.

Seems like Skype was given quite a packet by Verizon to secure this exclusive deal. Not only have they given up trying to make money on other Android devices, they have probably given up a per app based payment system. Instead it looks like they will be offering a structured plan for their Skype Mobile exclusive service on Verizon.

Verizon has now told us which phones will be compatible and there are three Android Phones in the list — The HTC Desire, Motorola Droid and Motorola Devour. Other mobile phones to support the service are several BlackBerry models — Curve 8530, Storm 9530, Storm 2 9550 and Tour 9630. Not that anyone really cares much about Blackberry’s phones anymore.

There are not details to report about the Verizon-Skype contract and I agree with Phandroid’s Rob — I too don’t think that we will ever see any details from that contract in the news, anywhere.

In the meantime, it looks like other Android users are left out in the cold when it comes to using Skype. This means there’s a vacuum to be filled in that category. May be some other companies will step up and make the cut.
